Effective Date: October 9, 2026 Version: 1.3
1. INTRODUCTION
This Privacy Policy describes how Revolt.Inc ("Publisher", "we", "us", or "our"), operating from Italy, handles information in connection with the Reelm application ("App", "Software") for Windows.
We are committed to protecting your privacy. Reelm is designed with a privacy-first approach: we do not operate user accounts, we do not collect personal data for advertising, and your media library database stays on your device. To show information about your movies and series, however, the App sends to our metadata service the titles and years that it derives from the names of your files and folders. All the data that can leave your device is described in Sections 5, 6, 7, 9.4 and 15.
Reelm contains no advertising and no usage telemetry or analytics.
This Privacy Policy applies only to the Reelm application. Our website (reelm.rvsg.net) has its own separate Privacy Policy.
2. DATA CONTROLLER
Revolt.Inc (trade name) Country: Italy Email: contact@rvsg.net Website: https://reelm.rvsg.net
3. DATA WE DO NOT COLLECT
Reelm does not collect, process, or transmit:
- Personal identification information (name, email, address, phone number)
- Account credentials or login information (no user accounts exist)
- Location data or GPS coordinates
- Contacts, calendar, or phone data
- Photos, camera, or microphone input
- Clipboard content
- Browsing history or search history outside the App
- Financial or payment information
- Biometric data
- Advertising identifiers (the App contains no advertising)
- Usage analytics or behavioural telemetry (the App contains no analytics SDK)
Note on IP addresses: Reelm itself does not log your IP address. However, every service the App contacts (Sections 6 and 7) sees your IP address as part of normal internet operation, and our metadata service logs it together with the request as described in Section 6.2.
4. DATA STORED LOCALLY ON YOUR DEVICE
The App stores its data in your device's local application data folders. For the Microsoft Store (packaged) build these folders are:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Revolt.Inc.MediaBoxMc_<publisherhash>\LocalState(database, settings, logs, crash data)%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Revolt.Inc.MediaBoxMc_<publisherhash>\LocalCache(image cache)
This data is not accessible to us. It leaves your device only in the cases described in this Policy (for example, a log export that you choose to send us, Section 9.4). It includes:
| Data Type | Purpose | Storage and retention |
|---|---|---|
| Media library database | Index of your video files (paths, filenames, file sizes, duration, codec info) | SQLite database, until you remove it |
| Metadata from TMDB | Movie/series information retrieved via our metadata service (titles, descriptions, cast, references to posters) | SQLite database, until you remove it |
| Watch history | Playback progress, watch count, last watched date for each video | SQLite database, until you remove it |
| Playlists | User-created and smart playlists | SQLite database, until you remove it |
| App settings | User preferences, language, UI configuration | SQLite database, until you remove it |
| File hashes | BLAKE3 hashes for file deduplication (computed from file content) | SQLite database, until you remove it |
| In-app notifications | Messages shown in the App's notification panel | Deleted automatically after 30 days |
| Application logs | Technical logs for troubleshooting; they can contain the names and folder paths of your files | At most 5 log files: a new file starts each day or when the current one reaches 10 MB, and the oldest file is deleted. Never uploaded automatically (see Section 9.4) |
| Crash data | If the App stops unexpectedly, a crash dump and a short record of the App's last steps, used to investigate the problem | Crash subfolder of LocalState: at most one dump per session and at most 96 MB in total. Never uploaded by the App |
| Image cache | Cached poster and backdrop images | LocalCache, until you clear it, reset the library, change the metadata language, or uninstall the App |
| Screenshots | Images of the App window that you choose to capture with the App's screenshot function | Saved on your device; never transmitted by the App |
The FFmpeg libraries used by the integrated player are part of the application package (not of your data folders) and run inside the App; they do not transmit data (see Section 7.2).
4.1 Factory Reset and Uninstall
You can delete the App's locally stored data at any time using the Factory Reset option in Settings. Uninstalling the App removes all of its local data folders, including the image cache.
5. NO TELEMETRY, NO ADVERTISING; CRASH REPORTS
Reelm does not include any analytics, usage-tracking, or crash-reporting SDK, and does not display advertising of any kind. The App itself does not collect or transmit usage data, advertising identifiers, or behavioural metrics.
5.1 Windows Error Reporting
If Reelm stops unexpectedly, Windows itself may send an error report to Microsoft through Windows Error Reporting (WER), as it does for any Windows application. Whether a report is sent, and how much it contains, depends on your Windows diagnostic and feedback settings, not on Reelm. Microsoft processes these reports under the Microsoft Privacy Statement (https://privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement).
As the publisher of an app distributed through the Microsoft Store, we can see in Microsoft Partner Center the crash information that Microsoft makes available about Reelm: for example the type of failure, the program module and call stack involved, the App and Windows versions, the device model, the market (country) of the device, the number of affected devices and, for some failures on Windows Insider builds only, a diagnostic file collected by Windows that may contain part of the App's memory at the time of the crash (for example the name of the file being played). This information does not include your name or a user account. We use it only to find and fix defects in Reelm (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) and do not combine it with other data. Partner Center shows crash data for up to about 30 days; any call stack or diagnostic file that we download is deleted once the defect is fixed, and in any case within 6 months.
You can change or turn off the sending of error reports in Windows (Settings > Privacy & security > Diagnostics & feedback).
5.2 Local Crash Data and Logs
The crash dump that Reelm writes to its own data folder and the application logs (Section 4) stay on your device. The App never uploads them; they leave your device only if you export them and decide to send them to someone (Section 9.4).
6. METADATA SERVICE (TMDB VIA mediaboxmc.com)
To show movie and series information, Reelm retrieves metadata from The Movie Database (TMDB). The App does not use a TMDB API key of yours; instead it sends metadata requests to our metadata service at mediaboxmc.com/api/v1, which holds the API credentials and forwards the request to TMDB on your behalf.
6.1 What Is Sent to the Service
- The title and year that the App derives from the name of each video file or of its folder and, for series, the season and episode numbers; when you search manually, the text you type
- TMDB identifiers of titles already found, to retrieve details, cast, and images
- Your UI language (the
langparameter), so that results are returned in your language - Your IP address (visible to the metadata service as part of any internet request)
6.2 Server-Side Logging
Our metadata service logs, server-side, the IP address of the request together with the query it received. This logging is used to operate, secure, and rate-limit the service (preventing abuse and protecting the shared API credentials).
- Purpose: Operating the service, abuse prevention, rate-limiting, and security/diagnostics.
- Legal basis (GDPR): Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in securing and maintaining the service and protecting the shared API credentials.
- Retention: Service access logs are retained for no longer than 12 months and are then deleted or anonymised.
6.3 Onward Transfer to TMDB
The metadata service forwards your query (title, year, language, or identifier, but not your client IP address) to TMDB so that TMDB can return the requested metadata. Your use of TMDB-sourced data is also subject to TMDB's own privacy practices. This product uses TMDB and the TMDB APIs but is not endorsed, certified, or otherwise approved by TMDB. TMDB Privacy Policy: https://www.themoviedb.org/privacy-policy
6.4 Images
Poster and backdrop images are downloaded from the addresses returned with the metadata. The server that delivers an image (our service or TMDB's image servers) sees your IP address as part of the request. Downloaded images are kept in the image cache on your device (Section 4).
6.5 Subtitles
Online subtitle lookup (for example OpenSubtitles) is not active in this version. Reelm only loads subtitle files that already exist locally alongside your video files ("sidecar" subtitles). No subtitle search request is sent to any online service.
7. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES AND NETWORK CONNECTIONS
Reelm makes the following network connections:
7.1 Metadata Service - mediaboxmc.com/api/v1
- See Section 6. Logs IP + query server-side; forwards metadata queries to TMDB.
7.2 Integrated Player (FFmpeg)
- Reelm plays video with its integrated player, built on the Windows media platform and on the FFmpeg libraries (through FFmpegInteropX).
- The FFmpeg libraries are included in the application package and run inside the Reelm process; nothing is downloaded at runtime.
- The player opens only the files you choose and sends no data to us or to third parties.
- FFmpeg is open source. See Section 5.1 of the EULA and the in-app Open Source Licenses for license and source-code information.
7.3 Connectivity Check - mediaboxmc.com and msftconnecttest.com
- Purpose: Detecting whether an internet connection is available, when the App starts and when it needs to know whether you are online.
- How: The App first contacts our metadata service (
mediaboxmc.com/api/v1/health). Only if that service does not answer does it contact Microsoft's connectivity-check server (msftconnecttest.com), which Microsoft operates under its own privacy statement. - Data sent: A standard request with no personal information, library contents, or search history. Your IP address is visible to the responding server as part of any internet request.
- If no connection is available, the App still starts; metadata cannot be retrieved until the connection returns.
7.4 Version and Legal Documents - reelm.rvsg.net
- Purpose: Checking whether a newer version of the App is required and retrieving the current legal documents (this Privacy Policy, the EULA, etc.) in your language.
- Data sent: A standard HTTPS request, including your UI language code (
lang) for the legal documents. Your IP address is visible to the server as part of any internet request. - Data NOT sent: Personal information, library contents.
- If a newer version is required, the App opens its page in the Microsoft Store; the Microsoft Store handles downloads and updates under Microsoft's own terms.
7.5 Hosting Provider - Cloudflare
- Our metadata service (mediaboxmc.com) and reelm.rvsg.net run on the infrastructure of Cloudflare, Inc. (United States), using Cloudflare Workers, Pages, and KV.
- Cloudflare processes the requests described in Sections 6, 7.3, and 7.4, including your IP address, on our behalf as a data processor (Art. 28 GDPR), in order to deliver and protect these services. See Section 13 for international transfers. Cloudflare Privacy Policy: https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/
7.6 Legal Bases and Retention
| Processing | Legal basis (GDPR) | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| Metadata lookups (title, year, season and episode, language, IP address) | Legitimate interest in providing the metadata feature you use (Art. 6(1)(f)) | Not stored beyond the service access logs (Section 6.2) |
| Connectivity check through our service | Legitimate interest in knowing whether the App can reach its services (Art. 6(1)(f)) | Not stored beyond the service access logs (Section 6.2) |
| Version check and legal documents | Legitimate interest in keeping the App working and showing you the current terms (Art. 6(1)(f)) | Not stored beyond the service access logs (Section 6.2) |
| Crash information in Partner Center | Legitimate interest in fixing defects (Art. 6(1)(f)) | Shown in Partner Center for up to about 30 days; any call stack or diagnostic file we download is deleted once the defect is fixed, and in any case within 6 months |
| Support requests (Section 15) | Answering your request (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f)) | Correspondence: up to 12 months after your request is closed; attached files, such as log exports: deleted within 30 days after your request is closed |
The connectivity check through msftconnecttest.com and the sending of Windows error reports are carried out by Windows and Microsoft under the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
8. OPTIONAL LOGON REMINDER (STARTUP TASK)
Reelm can optionally remind you at Windows logon. This feature is opt-in and disabled by default.
- If you enable it, Reelm registers a Windows StartupTask so the App (or its reminder) can run at logon.
- This is a purely local operating-system integration; no data is transmitted as a result of enabling it.
- You can disable it at any time in Settings, and it is automatically removed when you uninstall the App.
9. FILE SYSTEM ACCESS
9.1 What the App Reads
- Your video library folders: The App reads (but never modifies) video files in folders you explicitly choose to add as library paths
- Subtitle files: The App reads local subtitle files (.srt, .sub, etc.) located alongside your video files
9.2 What the App Writes
- Its own application data folders (see Section 4)
- Files that you explicitly save, such as a log export (Section 9.4), in the location you choose
- The App never modifies, renames, moves, or deletes your video files, subtitle files, or any other user files
9.3 Network Shares
If you add a network share (SMB) as a library path, the App accesses it using your existing Windows network credentials. No network credentials are stored or processed by the App.
9.4 Exporting the Log
From Settings you can export the application log to a file. The App saves the file only where you choose and never sends it anywhere.
- Folder paths are hidden in the export by default, and always hidden in the Microsoft Store build.
- The names of your video files remain visible in the export, together with technical information about how the App ran.
- If you decide to send the exported file to us, for example by email to ask for support, we receive the information it contains (see Section 15). Please check its content before sending it.
10. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
Reelm carries an all-ages content rating and is a general-audience media player; it is not specifically directed at children. Reelm does not require an account and does not ask for any personal details, and it does not knowingly collect personal data from children. The only personal data we process are the technical data described in Sections 5 to 7 (such as the request IP address and the titles handled by the metadata service, on a legitimate-interest basis) and what you choose to send us when you contact us (Section 15); none of it is used to build profiles or collected through any child-directed feature. Because Reelm relies on legitimate interest rather than consent for these limited operational data, and offers no accounts or profiling, it does not require parental consent under the applicable digital-consent age (which varies by country - for example 14 in Italy under Legislative Decree 101/2018). The App contains no age-restricted content of its own, but it can display metadata (posters, descriptions) and play media of any age rating that you provide or look up; a parent or guardian should supervise use by minors accordingly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us at contact@rvsg.net and we will take appropriate steps to address it.
11. DATA SECURITY
- All local data is stored in your user profile's application data folders, protected by your Windows user account permissions
- All connections to our services and to other third-party services use HTTPS/TLS
- We do not maintain any server-side database of user accounts or user profiles; the only server-side records relating to you are the time-limited service access logs described in Section 6 and any correspondence you send us (Section 15)
12. YOUR RIGHTS (GDPR - EU/EEA RESIDENTS)
If you are located in the European Union or European Economic Area, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
| Right | How It Applies |
|---|---|
| Right of Access | We do not hold personal profiles. The personal data we process are the IP address + query recorded in service access logs (Section 6) and any correspondence you send us (Section 15); because the logs are not tied to an account, we may be unable to identify which entries relate to you without additional information you provide. |
| Right to Rectification | Service access logs are factual technical records and are not generally rectifiable; no personal profile is stored. |
| Right to Erasure | You can delete all local data via Factory Reset or by uninstalling the App. Service access logs are automatically deleted within the retention period (Section 6.2). You can ask us to delete your support correspondence at any time. |
| Right to Data Portability | Your local database file can be copied/backed up at any time from the App's data folder (Section 4). |
| Right to Object / Restrict | You may object to or request restriction of service log processing by contacting us; note that metadata lookups cannot function without contacting the metadata service. |
| Right to Lodge a Complaint | You may file a complaint with the Italian Data Protection Authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali) at https://www.garanteprivacy.it or with the supervisory authority of your country of residence. |
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@rvsg.net.
13. INTERNATIONAL DATA TRANSFERS
Some of the providers involved may process data outside the European Economic Area:
- Cloudflare (Section 7.5) may process your IP address and requests in the United States and in other countries where it operates. These transfers rely on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, where applicable, and on the Standard Contractual Clauses included in Cloudflare's data processing terms.
- TMDB: when the metadata service forwards your query to TMDB (Section 6.3), that request may be processed on servers located outside the European Economic Area. Such transfers rely on appropriate safeguards (for example Standard Contractual Clauses) or other lawful transfer mechanisms where required.
- Microsoft processes Windows error reports and its connectivity checks (Sections 5.1 and 7.3) under the Microsoft Privacy Statement, including its transfer mechanisms.
Our service access logs (Section 6.2) are kept by us within the infrastructure we use for the service (Cloudflare).
14. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will:
- Update the "Version" and "Effective Date" at the top of this document
- Show you the updated Privacy Policy in the App the next time you start it
- Post the updated policy on our website
15. SUPPORT REQUESTS
If you contact us (for example at contact@rvsg.net), we process your email address, the content of your message, and any file you choose to attach, such as a log export, which contains the names of your video files (Section 9.4).
- Purpose: Answering your request and fixing the problems you report.
- Legal basis (GDPR): Taking the steps you request (Art. 6(1)(b)) and our legitimate interest in supporting the users of Reelm (Art. 6(1)(f)).
- Retention: Correspondence is kept for up to 12 months after your request is closed; attached files, such as log exports, are deleted within 30 days after your request is closed. You can ask us to delete them earlier.
Please do not send us files containing information you do not want us to see.
