Reelm - Media Center for Windows
Effective Date: October 9, 2026 Version: 1.3
1. AGREEMENT TO TERMS
This End User License Agreement ("Agreement") is a legal agreement between you ("User" or "you") and Revolt.Inc ("Publisher", "we", "us", or "our"), operating from Italy, for the use of the Reelm software application ("App", "Software").
By installing, copying, or otherwise using the Software, you agree to be bound by the terms of this Agreement. If you do not agree to the terms of this Agreement, do not install or use the Software.
For installations obtained through the Microsoft Store, this Agreement is the publisher's license terms for Reelm and applies in place of the Microsoft Standard Application License Terms. The Microsoft Store Terms of Sale continue to govern your use of the Microsoft Store.
2. SAVINGS CLAUSE (MANDATORY CONSUMER RIGHTS)
Nothing in this Agreement limits, excludes, or modifies any right or remedy that cannot be limited, excluded, or modified by law. In particular, and notwithstanding any other provision of this Agreement:
- Your mandatory rights as a consumer under the Italian Consumer Code (D.Lgs. 206/2005) and applicable EU consumer-protection law, including, where applicable, the rules on the conformity of digital content and digital services, remain fully in force.
- Nothing in this Agreement excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for wilful misconduct (dolo) or gross negligence (colpa grave), or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
- Where any limitation or exclusion in this Agreement is not permitted by the law applicable to you, that limitation or exclusion applies only to the maximum extent permitted by that law, and the remainder of the Agreement remains in effect.
This Section prevails over any conflicting provision elsewhere in this Agreement.
3. LICENSE GRANT
3.1 Free Application
Reelm is provided free of charge. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license, revocable only as set out in Section 15.2, to install and use Reelm on any number of Windows devices that you own or control, for personal, non-commercial use.
This version of Reelm contains no advertising and no paid or premium features.
3.2 Scope and Restrictions
This license does not grant you any rights to:
- Sublicense, sell, rent, lease, or distribute the Software as your own product
- Use the Software for unlawful purposes
- Remove, alter, or obscure any proprietary notices, labels, or marks
Nothing in this Section restricts rights granted to you under the open-source licenses of the third-party components included in the Software (see Section 5), including, where applicable, your rights to use, modify, and obtain the source code of those components.
3.3 Eligibility and Age
Reelm carries an all-ages content rating (IARC 3+; for example PEGI 3, ESRB Everyone, USK 0) and contains no age-restricted content of its own. Reelm does not require an account and is not directed to children. Because Reelm plays media that you provide or look up, you are solely responsible for ensuring that such media is appropriate and lawful for you and for anyone you allow to use it. If you are below the age of majority in your country, you may use Reelm only with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian, to the extent required by applicable law. See Section 10 of the Privacy Policy for how children's data is handled.
3.4 Reverse Engineering and LGPL Libraries
The Reelm application code is proprietary. You may not decompile, disassemble, or reverse engineer it, except:
- to the extent that section 4 of the GNU Lesser General Public License, version 3, requires us to permit it: you may modify the portions of the LGPL libraries contained in the Software (FFmpeg and GNU libiconv; see Section 5.1), or replace them with modified versions, and you may reverse engineer the Software only to debug such modifications. This permission is for your own use and does not allow you to distribute the Software or a modified version of it; or
- to the extent that applicable law expressly permits it notwithstanding this restriction (for example, to obtain the information needed for interoperability).
You may use Reelm with the modified or replaced LGPL libraries for your own use, and you may distribute those libraries under the terms of the LGPL. The other third-party components are governed by their own licenses (Section 5). Nothing in this Section permits you to use or disclose any credentials or keys of our backend services that you may come across, or to use those services other than through the App, and nothing in it grants you any right to use the Reelm name, logos, or trademarks.
4. DESCRIPTION OF THE SOFTWARE
Reelm is a media center application for Windows that allows you to:
- Organize and browse your personal video library (movies and series)
- Retrieve metadata and artwork from The Movie Database (TMDB)
- Play video files with its integrated player, built on the Windows media platform and on the FFmpeg libraries (through FFmpegInteropX)
- Manage playlists, watch history, and locally stored (sidecar) subtitles
- Access video files stored locally or on network shares (SMB)
The Software does not provide, host, stream, index, or distribute any media content. It is a tool for organizing and playing media files that you already lawfully possess. You are solely responsible for ensuring that you have the legal right to access and play any media files in your library and to obtain metadata for them.
5. THIRD-PARTY AND OPEN SOURCE COMPONENTS
The Software incorporates open source and third-party components. These components are not owned by Revolt.Inc: each of them remains the property of its respective copyright holders and is licensed under its own terms. The complete list of these components, their copyright notices, and the full texts of their licenses are provided in the Third-Party Notices: the file THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt included in the application package (in the Reelm installation folder), also available from Settings > About > Open Source Licenses and at https://reelm.rvsg.net/en/legal/third-party-notices/. Where this Agreement conflicts with the license of a third-party component, that license prevails for that component.
Third-party components and tools are provided by their respective authors "as is", under their own licenses and without any warranty from those authors; the warranty disclaimers of those licenses are reproduced in the Third-Party Notices. This does not reduce our own obligations to you under Section 2.
5.1 FFmpeg (LGPL 2.1 or later, distributed under LGPL 3)
This software uses code of FFmpeg (https://ffmpeg.org) licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License, version 2.1 or later (LGPL-2.1-or-later), and its source can be downloaded at: https://reelm.rvsg.net/oss/ffmpeg/n8.1.2-ffmpeginteropx-8.1.2/
FFmpeg is licensed under the LGPL version 2.1 "or any later version", and GNU libiconv under the GNU Library General Public License version 2 "or any later version". Using that option, Revolt.Inc distributes FFmpeg and GNU libiconv with Reelm under the GNU Lesser General Public License, version 3 (LGPL-3.0), which incorporates the terms of the GNU General Public License, version 3 (GPL-3.0).
Reelm plays media through the Windows media platform together with FFmpegInteropX (https://github.com/ffmpeginteropx/FFmpegInteropX, Apache License 2.0) and the FFmpeg libraries (FFmpeg n8.1.2, built by FFmpegInteropX without GPL-only or non-free components). The FFmpeg libraries are included in the application package as separate, dynamically linked libraries (DLLs); they are not statically combined with the Reelm application code. The FFmpeg libraries in turn contain GNU libiconv (LGPL) and the other libraries listed in the Third-Party Notices.
FFmpeg is not owned by Revolt.Inc. The copyright in FFmpeg belongs to the FFmpeg developers, who are named in the copyright notices of the source files and in the project history at https://git.ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg; the copyright in GNU libiconv belongs to the Free Software Foundation, Inc.; the copyright in FFmpegInteropX belongs to the FFmpegInteropX contributors.
You may use, study, modify, and redistribute FFmpeg and GNU libiconv under the terms of the LGPL version 3, whose full text, together with the text of the GPL version 3 that it incorporates, is included in the Third-Party Notices. The complete corresponding source code of the exact FFmpeg build shipped with Reelm (including GNU libiconv, the build scripts, and the configuration used) is available at the address above and, for at least three years from the date on which you received this version of Reelm, on request at contact@rvsg.net. See also Section 3.4.
5.2 TMDB Metadata and Images
The Software retrieves metadata and images from The Movie Database (TMDB). This product uses TMDB and the TMDB APIs but is not endorsed, certified, or otherwise approved by TMDB. Metadata and images (such as posters and backdrops) are provided by TMDB and belong to TMDB, its contributors, and the respective rights holders (for example, film studios); they are shown in the App for your personal, non-commercial use only and are not licensed to you by Revolt.Inc. "TMDB" and the TMDB logo are trademarks of The Movie Database. See our Privacy Policy for details of data handling.
6. ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY (AUP)
You agree that you will not use the Software to:
- Access, store, organize, play, or distribute content that you do not have the lawful right to access, including content that infringes copyright or other rights of third parties
- Circumvent, disable, or interfere with any technological protection measure, access control, or digital rights management on any content
- Violate any applicable law or regulation, including those concerning copyright, data protection, or computer misuse
- Abuse, overload, or probe our metadata service or other backend services, attempt to circumvent their security, use or disclose any of their credentials or keys that you may come across, or use them other than through the App's normal functionality
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the proprietary Reelm application code, except as permitted by Section 3.4, to the extent such restriction is prohibited by applicable law, or as expressly permitted by the license of an included open-source component
You are solely responsible for the media files, sources, library paths, and network locations you choose to add to and use within the Software, and for ensuring your use complies with applicable law.
7. DATA, PRIVACY, AND NETWORK CONNECTIONS
7.1 Local Data
Your library database, watch history, preferences, and configurations are stored on your local device in the application's data folders. We do not have access to this data. To retrieve metadata, the App sends to our metadata service the titles and years that it derives from the names of your files and folders (see the Privacy Policy). Application logs are kept locally and are never uploaded automatically; you can export them yourself, and the exported file contains the names of your video files.
7.2 No Telemetry, No Advertising
The Software contains no advertising and no usage analytics or crash-reporting SDK. The App itself does not collect or transmit usage data, advertising identifiers, or behavioural metrics. If the App crashes, Windows may send an error report to Microsoft through Windows Error Reporting, depending on your Windows settings, and Microsoft makes crash information available to us in Microsoft Partner Center (see the Privacy Policy).
7.3 Network Connections
The Software connects to the internet to retrieve movie and series metadata from The Movie Database (TMDB) through our metadata service (mediaboxmc.com), checks whether an internet connection is available (first through our metadata service and, if it does not answer, through msftconnecttest.com), and contacts reelm.rvsg.net to check for required updates and retrieve legal documents. If no connection is available, the App still starts, but metadata cannot be retrieved. If we publish a required minimum version of the Software (for example, to keep it compatible with our services or for security reasons), the App shows a message and opens the Microsoft Store so that you can update it, and an older version may not start until it is updated. For details of how data is handled, see the Privacy Policy.
7.4 Full Details
For complete information about data handling, please refer to our Privacy Policy available at https://reelm.rvsg.net/en/legal/privacy-policy/ and within the App under Settings > About > Privacy Policy.
8. OPTIONAL LOGON REMINDER (STARTUP TASK)
The Software can optionally remind you at Windows logon. This feature is opt-in and disabled by default. When enabled, it registers a Windows StartupTask so the reminder can run at logon. It transmits no data, can be disabled at any time in Settings, and is automatically removed when you uninstall the Software.
9. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
The Reelm application (excluding FFmpeg, FFmpegInteropX, and the other third-party and open-source components listed in the Third-Party Notices, which belong to their respective owners and are covered by their own licenses), including its design, code, graphics, and logos, is the intellectual property of Revolt.Inc and is protected by copyright laws and international treaties.
All trademarks, service marks, and trade names used in the Software are the property of their respective owners.
10. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, AND SUBJECT TO SECTION 2 (SAVINGS CLAUSE), THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.
Nothing in this Section affects the statutory warranties and legal guarantees of conformity to which you are entitled as a consumer, which remain fully in force. Because the Software is provided free of charge, our obligations and liability are those that apply by law to software supplied without payment.
We do not warrant that the Software will meet your requirements, be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any errors will be corrected.
11. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
Subject to Section 2 (Savings Clause):
11.1 Consumers in the EU and EEA
If you are a consumer habitually resident in the European Union or the European Economic Area:
- We are liable without limitation for damage caused by our wilful misconduct (dolo) or gross negligence (colpa grave), for death or personal injury, and in any other case in which liability cannot be limited by law.
- For slight negligence, we are liable only for the breach of an obligation that is essential to the proper use of the Software and on which you may reasonably rely, and only for damage that was typical and foreseeable when you accepted this Agreement.
- If you lose data, our liability is limited to the effort that would have been needed to restore the data from reasonable, regular backups appropriate to its importance. This limitation does not apply where the loss is caused by our wilful misconduct or gross negligence.
11.2 All Other Users
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or in connection with your use of or inability to use the Software, third-party content or services accessed through it, or your choice of media files or sources.
11.3 Liability That Cannot Be Limited
Nothing in this Agreement excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for wilful misconduct (dolo) or gross negligence (colpa grave), for fraud, or for any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law. This Section does not affect mandatory consumer-protection rights under applicable law, including the Italian Consumer Code (D.Lgs. 206/2005) and EU consumer-protection directives.
12. USER RESPONSIBILITIES AND INDEMNITY
You are solely responsible for:
- Ensuring you have the legal right to access and play media files in your library
- Complying with all applicable laws regarding the content you access, organize, or play through the Software
- Maintaining backups of your data
To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to hold us harmless from third-party claims arising directly from your own unlawful use of the Software, including unlawful use in breach of the Acceptable Use Policy (Section 6), to the extent the claim is caused by your fault. This obligation is limited to claims caused by your own conduct, does not apply to matters for which we are responsible, and does not extend beyond what is proportionate and permitted by law. It does not apply to you to the extent prohibited by mandatory consumer-protection law.
13. TAKEDOWN AND ABUSE REPORTS
Reelm does not host content. If you believe that the Software, our website, or our backend services are being used in a way that infringes your rights, or you wish to report abuse, contact us at contact@rvsg.net. We will review properly substantiated notices and take appropriate action, which may include restricting access to the affected services.
14. UPDATES AND MODIFICATIONS
14.1 Software Updates
We may release updates to the Software from time to time, delivered through the Microsoft Store or through the channel from which you obtained the Software. Some updates may be required (see Section 7.3).
14.2 Modifications to this Agreement
We may modify this Agreement. If we make material changes, the App will show you the updated Agreement and ask you to accept it before you continue to use the App; the changes do not apply to you until you accept them. If you do not accept the modified terms, you may stop using and uninstall the Software.
15. TERMINATION
15.1 By You
You may terminate this Agreement at any time by uninstalling the Software and deleting all copies.
15.2 By Us
We may terminate or suspend this Agreement if you materially breach its terms, to the extent permitted by applicable law. Upon termination, you must cease all use of the Reelm application and delete all copies (your rights under the open-source licenses of included components are unaffected).
15.3 Survival
Sections 2 (Savings Clause), 6 (Acceptable Use Policy), 9 (Intellectual Property), 10 (Disclaimer), 11 (Limitation of Liability), 12 (User Responsibilities and Indemnity), and 17 (Governing Law) shall survive termination.
16. SEVERABILITY
If any provision of this Agreement is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that this Agreement shall otherwise remain in full force and effect.
17. GOVERNING LAW AND JURISDICTION
This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Italy, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
For EU consumers: Nothing in this Agreement deprives you of the protection afforded by the mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence. You may bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence, and mandatory consumer-protection rules of that country continue to apply.
18. ENTIRE AGREEMENT
This Agreement, together with the Privacy Policy and the Third-Party Notices (Section 5), constitutes the entire agreement between you and Revolt.Inc regarding the Software and supersedes all prior agreements and understandings on its subject matter.
This Agreement may be made available in several languages. If a translation differs from the English version, the English version prevails, except that, if you are a consumer, any doubt about the meaning of a term is resolved in the way most favourable to you.
